Known for their pop-punk, 80’s-inspired sound, and relaxed cool-girl rocker aesthetic, The Beaches members Jordan Miller, Kylie Miller, Leandra Earl, and Eliza Enman-McDaniel are avid users of Depop and will give their fans the opportunity to shop some of their favorite pieces that were donned over the years at concerts, recordings and music videos.
The Beaches’ music is reflective of their lives with hit songs like "Blame Brett" resonating closely with fans due to its vulnerability. Their individual styles share the same sense of honesty, with unique fashion pieces that channel a cool girl sense of confidence. They “love cool girl groups of the 70s, 80s, 90s” and have been wearing “a lot of leather, crop tops, just bras, tanks with no bras, sneakers, big boots, long skirts.” The girls share, “We wanted to each contribute a few items that represent our personal wardrobes and our styles. We hope there’s something there for everyone!”
From jumpsuits to jackets, Depop users can expect to find a range of pieces from Levi’s, Aritzia, Dickies, and Oak + Fort, with prices ranging from $14 to $70.
We chatted with Beaches about their personal style, their rising success, and got the backstory on the iconic white baby tees they’ve been wearing on tour.
How would you describe your sense of style as a band? Do your personal styles vary - how do you see yourselves as similar and different with clothing?
We definitely all have our own styles, when you see us on stage it’s a mix of different aesthetics & silhouettes but makes sense when you put us together. It’s definitely a mix of girlie pieces with some leaning more into a tom-boy aesthetic. Kylie loves to wear mini skirts with a crop top, Jordan can be seen wearing a long silk dress with a pair of big black boots, Leandra generally has low rise leather pants with a plain white tank top, and Eliza goes for high waisted jeans with a baby-tee.
You’ve been together for quite a while, has your style evolved in recent years and if so, how?
Our style has definitely evolved in recent years, and I think that just comes with the music evolving but also finding our own personal styles. We work closely with our stylist Shae Holt who really understands our individual tastes and helps showcase those while still being cohesive as a band.
You’ve said before you take musical inspiration from the great rockers of the 70’s and 80’s, who do you take your style inspiration from? Is it the same type of people or do you incorporate modern references?
The Runaways, Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders, Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, Emily Haines from Metric.
What is your tour aesthetic like? Does it change show to show?
We usually each have a few outfits that our stylist Shae Holt helps us plan before we leave on tour. I think the outfits always represent our individual personalities really well, but you can see a clear & cohesive Beaches aesthetic when you put it all together. Definitely love a cool girl vibe that we feel comfortable playing in.
Can you give us the backstory behind your iconic white baby tees you wear on tour?
Yes! When Blame Brett came out we loved the idea of playing into that theme, so for our album release party last September we made individual shirts all blaming our own exes. And then it kind of took off as a fun thing for fans to do when they come to our shows, where they would make their own custom Blame shirts with their exe’s names (or just their best friends & silly things). Every night there’s always so many good ones and we love seeing them in the crowd.
Do you notice any alignments between your style of music and how you dress? Are the two different?
For this album we were definitely inspired by new wave bands, and in general we love cool girl groups of the 70s, 80s, 90s. We’ve been doing a lot of leather, crop tops, just bras, tanks with no bras, sneakers, big boots, long skirts.
How would you describe the pieces in your shop? Do any hold special meaning to you or have unique stories?
They’re all pieces we’ve held throughout the years and have a lot of fun memories in. Hopefully people can love them just as much as we did !!
How did you decide to curate the pieces in your Depop shop? What was the thought process behind it?
We wanted to each contribute a few items that represent our personal wardrobes and our styles. We hope there’s something there for everyone!
