US: We're changing the way Depop fees work

Education / Product Update

Depop is on a mission to make fashion circular. Over the last 13 years, we have built a community of 35m users who can buy, sell and connect to make fashion more inclusive, accessible and less wasteful. As our market has evolved over that time, we've evolved too - and now we're making some changes to the way our fees work in the US.

Within this blog post, we break down exactly what’s changing and why.

The need-to-know:

👋 We’re saying goodbye to US selling fees: We've removed the Depop selling fee (10% of total sale price) from July 15 2024 for all newly listed items. This means sellers will receive more cash in their pocket from each sale and now have the freedom to sell a wider range of items on Depop, regardless of price.

🙋 We’re saying hello to a new US marketplace fee: We're introducing a small fee for US buyers on every purchase which will apply from July 18, 2024. This fee will help us to continually invest in Depop Protection, customer support, platform improvements and growing our community.

FeesFee AmountFee Basis
Sellers in the US:
No Depop selling fees will be charged to sellers in the US making sales in USD ($).
Payment processing fee (Depop Payments)3.3% + $0.45The payment processing fee for Depop Payments will remain and is charged on the total transaction amount (including shipping costs and any taxes).
Buyers in the US:
Marketplace feeUp to 5% of the item purchase price, plus a fixed amount of up to $1Applicable to buyers with a shipping address in the US, paying via Depop Payments (Stripe). The marketplace fee excludes taxes and shipping costs.

Why are we making this change?

  • We want to empower our US sellers to list more, sell more and earn more, and make it as easy as possible for people who’ve never sold before to give it a try.

  • More listings means more choice and variety for US buyers, at a greater range of price points.

  • Our aim is to open up access to the circular economy, fuelling a dynamic marketplace with greater power to change the world of fashion for good.

We also want to invest further in the areas that our users care about:

  • Depop Protection: buyers and sellers are safe in the knowledge that we’ve got their back if there’s an issue with a purchase (terms and exclusions apply).

  • Customer support: Our support team is available round-the-clock to help with any concerns or questions, so users can shop with confidence.

  • New features and improvements: We are increasingly investing in our platform to upgrade features, improve security and optimize performance.

  • Community growth: A larger platform and user base helps us to attract new buyers and sellers globally.

We removed selling fees for UK sellers earlier this year, and currently, zero selling fees are applicable only to sellers based in the U.K. and U.S. We're continually testing and developing our platform globally, and exploring new ways to serve our buyers and sellers; and this evolution is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the value we deliver to our community.
