Jeremy Zucker says, “One environmental concern that has always weighed on me is centered around fashion and style. The fashion industry, to put it plainly, poses a significant threat to the environment. The notion that styles shift 2-4 times a year, and that to be considered 'fashionable,' we must constantly adapt and explore new trends, in itself, is problematic. The fast fashion sector is incredibly wasteful, generating staggering amounts of waste while also fostering unfair labor practices in countries where these garments are produced. In recent years, I've increasingly turned to thrifting as a way to recycle clothing or repurpose older pieces. It's been great to witness the growing trend of thrifting and repurposing clothing. This approach allows me to stay engaged with fashion without the inevitable guilt of perpetuating the system. I keep a revolving closet by purchasing second-hand items, selling my own older pieces on Depop, and then directing the proceeds towards causes I believe in. Collaborating with many of my friends to amplify this message, while also giving fans an opportunity to acquire a piece from their favorite artist, has been incredibly fulfilling.”
Zucker, whose music questions issues of heartache, identity and his advocacy for the environment, has been a staunch opponent to fast fashion because of the vast waste it produces and the unfair working conditions that surround the industry. In an effort to reduce waste, Zucker has become an avid user on Depop, turning to thrifting, reusing clothes and buying/repurposing old garments to promote a more circular approach to fashion.
Jeremy Zucker’s views align perfectly with Depop, emphasizing that circular fashion is not just a trend, but a step in the right direction to a greener, more sustainable environment. Depop aims to inspire its 30 million users and the music community to make environmental choices for their wardrobe and lifestyle.
